Senior BJP leader and former Union Cabinet Minister Shri Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today said here that the Congress should clarify whether they are with Constitutional commitment or communal conspiracy on the Uniform Civil Code.

Replying to reporters when asked about the Uniform Civil Code, Shri Naqvi said that it is high time that the UCC is made free from confinement of communal crafters for the last seven decades. The UCC is not for any particular community, it is for the entire society.

Shri Naqvi said that from Constituent Assembly to Parliament, from streets to civil society to Supreme Court; the demand and need for the UCC was raised on several occasions. However, communal confusion and commotion hijacked the constitutional commitment and instead of becoming a part of the Constitution, the UCC remained a part of the Directive Principles of the State.

Shri Naqvi said that with the fresh commencement of much needed national debate on the UCC, the “phony political vendors of communal votes” have again started their prejudiced political propaganda and canny conspiracy against the UCC by terming it an encroachment on religious beliefs and practices.

Shri Naqvi said that the “professional political players of paralogism” knows very well that the UCC has nothing to do with religious beliefs of any community including the Muslims and the UCC will make the nation free from “web of different civil laws” by ensuring equality and justice to all.

Shri Naqvi said that as the country has entered into the Amrit Kaal, hopefully the current deliberation will result in a consensus on the Uniform Civil Code. This 'Amrit' of the UCC can become the most precious gift of the Amrit Kaal.
