New Delhi, 25th May, 2023: Former Union Cabinet Minister and senior BJP leader Shri Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today said here that “preservation and promotion” of Circus is need of the hour.
On the occasion of inauguration of the "International Circus Festival", organized in New Delhi today, Shri Naqvi said that Circus, which has been a popular live entertainment from cities to villages, is now struggling for its survival.
Shri Naqvi said that the Circus industry in India has been severely affected by the availability of innumerable mediums of entertainment in the current digital era. Also, the Circus industry suffered an enormous loss due to the Corona pandemic and the lockdowns. Still, the Circus has its own attraction and magnetism in India.
Shri Naqvi said that Circus is not only a medium of entertainment but it has also been a source of employment for artists and other people on a large scale. Today, these artists and other people are facing crisis of livelihood. That is why besides promoting traditional Indian sports, concrete steps need to be taken for uplift of Circus also.
Besides India, Circus artists from Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are also participating in this 4-day "International Circus Festival" and enthralling the audiences with their performance.
