Lucknow, 26 June, 2016:Salient points of my speech during programme organized on Emergency at Lucknow:

Senior BJP leader & Union Minister Shri Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today said here that foundation of “Congress-free India” was laid with the 1975-77 Emergency only and it also led to wipe out of the Congress’ “feudal mindset”.

Addressing a programme at Lucknow organized on Emergency, Shri Naqvi said that the Congress governments which were formed after the Emergency, they too worked with “feudal mindset”. Instead of taking lesson from the Emergency, the Congress party repeated their “sin”.

Shri Naqvi said that Emergency, imposed by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, was the biggest “blot” on Indian democracy and “darkest period” of India’s democratic history. Democracy was throttled, fundamental rights of the people of the country were violated and opposition leaders were put behind bars. The people especially youths came to the streets under the leadership of Jaiprakash Narain to protect democracy. Hundreds of people died in jails, there was height of cruelty and brutality against political opponents.

Shri Naqvi said that the Congress’ history is full of instances of “murder of democracy”. On several occasions, Congress weakened the democracy by politically misusing Constitutional and other institutions. The entire country witnessed that during the UPA regime, the Congress politically misused CBI and other Constitutional institutions and weakened nation’s security fabric by creating conflict between various agencies. The Congress misused even a sensitive issue of national security as their political weapon.

Shri Naqvi said that “Congress-free India” doesn’t mean making the country free from any particular party but it is to make the country free from the “feudal mindset” and “autocratic thinking” which the Congress represented.

Shri Naqvi said that one of the important messages of the Emergency is that the people of the country will never accept or tolerate “dictatorship, brutality, arrogance and feudal mindset”. This is the reason that the Congress is shrinking from political map of the country. Those political parties who support the Congress have also been bearing the brunt of its acts.

Shri Naqvi said that even today, the Congress’ mentality is to create hurdles in efforts made by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for empowerment of poor people and nation’s development. Congress’s thinking is that how son of a poor can become the Prime Minister? How he is enhancing India’s pride at global level? How can he work tirelessly and successfully in the interests of villages, poor, farmers, weaker sections.

The Congress has insulted the historic mandate given to the Modi Government in 2014 Lok Sabha polls and the party has blocked passage of key legislations related to nation’s economic development by misusing its numerical strength in Rajya Sabha.

Shri Naqvi said that Shri Modi and the BJP is a “watchman of nation’s democracy and democratic values”. Our “watch & guard” is the guarantee of safety of democracy.

Shri Naqvi said that democracy should be made a “weapon” to strengthen fundamental rights of poor people of the country. Change in thinking and the system is needed for the purpose and Prime Minister Shri Modi has strongly been moving in this direction.

Shri Naqvi said that the Emergency reminds us to make all possible efforts to strengthen democratic values and Shri Modi has been working to take all stakeholders onboard as a “Team India” to achieve this goal.

Shri Naqvi said that on this occasion, our commitment should be to defeat all those who want to obstruct the nation’s over-all development. We should strengthen the democratic values and then only India will be able to keep its status of biggest and greatest democracy of the world.
