Thiruvananthapuram, 29 Jan, 2016: Union Minister of State for Parliamentary and Minority Affairs Shri Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today said here that health of the nation as well as its citizens is our priority and we have to work with this commitment so that every Indian remains healthy and India becomes prosperous.

Shri Naqvi said that the Central Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has initiated a revolutionary campaign for the health of the nation and its citizens. Programmes such as “National Health Mission”, “Make in India”, “Kisan Bima Yojana”, “Mudra Bank”, “Jan Dhan Yojana”, “Pradhanmantri Jivan Jyoti Bima Yojana” will proved to be effective medicines for people’s “economic and social health”.

Shri Naqvi said that “good health is key to success”. “Healthy and Prosperous India” is priority of the Modi Government and our Government has been working with a commitment to provide good and low-cost health services in the remote areas of the country and poor. Private sector has an important role to play in this regard.

However, the situation will be improved if every doctor takes rural areas service for a definite period as a mission. It will not give lot of money to doctors, but it will definitely give them an opportunity to serve the poor and underprivileged.

Shri Naqvi said that “Mission Indradhanush” is also an important initiative of the Central Government in health sector. During the first phase of “Mission Indradhanush”, 1.89 crore vaccines were administered to the children and pregnant women. More than 75 lakh children were vaccinated and about 20 lakh children were fully vaccinated. During Phase II of the mission, about 70 lakh vaccines were administered to the children and pregnant women. More than 27 lakh children were vaccinated and about 8 lakh children were fully vaccinated.

Shri Naqvi said that the Central Government in October last year, gave its approval for setting up of three new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AllMS) at Nagpur in Maharashtra, at Manglagiri in Andhra Pradesh and at Kalyani in West Bengal under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY). Besides this, the Centre has also been planning to establish network of modern hospitals at other places of the country.

Shri Naqvi said that eradicating malnutrition and tackling infant mortality rate is in priorities of the Central Government. The Government has also been working to create awareness among the people regarding various diseases.

Shri Naqvi said that we will have to promote health services along the lines of a social revolution. The Modi Government has been running a campaign so that accessible and low cost medical facilities are provided especially to poor including dalits, and minority communities.
