Press release regarding my speech at seminar on "Shifting Paradigm: Re-envisioning Minority Issues & Minority Studies in India" at Jamia Millia Islamia today New Delhi, 8 September, 2015: Union Minister of State for Minority & Parliamentary Affairs Shri Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today said here that security, dignity, identity of minority communities is not a “political propaganda” but a “candour commitment” to empowerment of minorities. Addressing scholars and students at a seminar “Shifting Paradigm: Re-envisioning Minority Issues and Minority Studies in India’’ at Jamia Millia Islamia, Shri Naqvi said that irrespective of caste and religion, the Narendra Modi Government treats every citizen of the country as an Indian and inclusive growth of all sections of the society is its priority. Shri Naqvi said that “vote politics” was done on the issues of social, economic and educational welfare of Minorities. Minorities especially Muslims were left behind on development path even after huge money was spent on their development. Loot of public money by middlemen was one of the major reasons behind this. Shri Naqvi said that this situation has completely been changed after NDA Government came to power under the leadership of Shri Narendra Modi in 2014. In these polls, every section of the society especially Muslims voted to the BJP in a large number on the issue of development. “Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas” is mantra of this Government. Environment of fear created by some political parties, who were in power for the last several decades, in the minds of minority communities against the BJP has been removed. Shri Naqvi said that this positive perception towards the BJP-led Government is not because of our words but by our action. Economic, religious, social and constitutional rights of every community are absolutely safe under the Modi Government. Shri Naqvi said that the NDA Government has completed about 15 months in power, and in such a short span of time, it has taken several development measures for progress and prosperity of poor people including Minority communities. Such steps were not taken for the last several decades. Shri Naqvi said that schemes such as “Jan Dhan Yojana”, “Pradhamnatri Suraksha Bima Yojana”, “Pradhanmantri Jivan Jyoti Bima Yojana”, “Atal Pension Yojana”, “Digital India”, “Make in India”, “Skill India”, “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao”, “Mudra Bank” are guarantee of inclusive growth of all the sections. These schemes will benefit poor people and minorities the most. “Mission Empowerment”, “Ustaad”, “Hamari Dharohar”, “Manas”, “Nai Manzil”, “Padho Pardesh”, “Sikho aur Kamao”, “Nai Roshni” will ensure progress of minority communities. The Prime Minister’s new 15 Point Programme is also significantly contributing in empowerment of minorities. Shri Naqvi said that removal of middlemen and “power brokers” from “power corridors” has ensured that public money meant for welfare of the minorities is spent on their welfare. ‘’Jan Dhan Yojana’’ and ‘’Mudra Bank’’ are a revolutionary step for taking the benefits of the welfare measures directly to deprived sections. Shri Naqvi said that minority communities should assess the Modi Government on the basis of its work and not from the eyes of “champions of secularism”. Coming days will be “golden days” for the poor people as ensuring development of even last person of the society, his safety is our responsibility. Shri Naqvi said that terrorism is a big challenge before the entire world. But we are proud that terror groups such as al-Qaida and ISIS have not been able to put their steps in India. Credit for this goes to patriotism of Muslims of India and not any Government or a political party. Jamia Millia Islamia Vice-Chancellor Prof. Talat Ahmad, former JNU Professor Imtiaz Ahmad, Professor Emeritus, JNU T. K. Ooommen and Head of Jamia’s Sociology Department Dr Neshat Quaiser were also present on the occasion.
